Metoprolol is commonly used off-label to treatsupraventricular tachycardia(irregularly fast heartbeat) andthyroid storm(an acute, life-threatening complication ofhyperthyroidism).
Abruptly stopping metoprolol can also make symptoms of hyperthyroidism worse or cause athyroid storm.
