Is Vaping Effective?
Do You Gain After Quitting?
Non-Nicotine Vapes
Safer Weight Loss Methods
Smoking cigarettes has been linked to weight loss, and quitting smoking may lead to weight gain. Does the same apply to vaping? While vaping nicotine may suppress appetite, there isn’t much evidence to support the use of vaping in managing weight.
Even less is known about the long-term effects of vaping without nicotine, such as using cannabidiol (CBD), an active ingredient in cannabis, or marijuana.

What the Research Says About Vaping and Weight Loss
Research on vaping and weight loss is still in its early stages. Those who vape nicotine may experience some of the appetite suppression that is experienced when smoking cigarettes. Nicotine is a stimulant that can reduce hunger and boost metabolism.
However, while these short-term effects on appetite are similar to smoking, thelong-term impactof vaping on weight isn’t known. Most studies have focused on the effects of cigarette smoking, but conclusions cannot yet be made on whether vaping has a similar outcome.
Because vaping is a much newer habit than smoking cigarettes, research on the topic is limited. While both cigarettes and vapes can contain nicotine, they deliver that nicotine in a different way.
Vaping devices heat a liquid to create vapor. This liquid contains nicotine and many other chemicals that are inhaled.Smoking a cigarette involves burning tobacco and any additives, with the nicotine being present in the inhaled smoke.
Is Vaping an Effective Weight Loss Tool?
Vaping with nicotine may seem like an effective tool for weight loss due to its potential to decrease appetite. However, vaping for weight control has not been shown to be an effective tool.
While nicotine can reduce hunger in the short term, relying on it for weight loss comes with significant risks to your health. Nicotine is very addictive, and thehealth riskswith vaping include:
Weight loss methods that focus on lifestyle changes can provide weight management without the risks associated with vaping. Although vaping may suppress appetite in the short term, it is not a safe or recommended tool for weight management.
Do You Gain Weight When You Quit Vaping?
The weight gain that can occur afterquitting cigarettesmoking isn’t only due to the lack of nicotine. It can also occur because of new habits formed (such as increased snacking) when quitting.Likewise, when youquit vaping, weight gain could occur, especially if you were vaping nicotine.
What About Non-Nicotine Vapes?
When it comes to vaping withCBDproducts, the available data have shown mixed results. CBD doesn’t have well-documented effects on weight loss, and a review of studies with CBD did not show consistency in reducing appetite or losing weight.
Marijuana vaping has been linked to both stimulating the appetite as well as suppressing the appetite depending on the strain of cannabis. However, the relationship between these substances and weight management is not clear.
Safer Alternatives for Weight Loss
Some interventions for healthy weight loss can include:
Summary
While smoking cigarettes has been linked to weight loss, the same cannot be said about vaping. Although nicotine vaping may suppress appetite, there isn’t much evidence to suggest this as a healthy intervention for weight management.
The research on vaping is still in early phases, and while it may have an effect on weight loss, it comes with significant health risks. Using vaping as a weight loss tool has not been shown to be safe or effective.
Safer weight-management strategies, such as eating a balanced diet and exercising, are recommended over vaping.
