Vulvar dermatitis is theinflammationof the skin surrounding thevagina, called thevulva, which causes redness, itching, and rash. There are many different causes of vulvar dermatitis, including heat and moisture, allergies, or a reaction to irritants like scented soaps, lotions, toilet paper, spermicides, laundry detergent, and clothing.

Most cases are relatively mild and can be treated at home with proper skin care and over-the-counter topical medications.

Vulvar dermatitis occurs when the folds of skin around the vagina become inflamed and irritated. The inflammation is sometimes calledvulvitis.
