A study from 2000 involved human participants to evaluate using a homeopathic gel to treat osteoarthritis. The homeopathic gel containedRhus tox,Symphytum officinale(comfrey), andLedum palustre(marsh-tea).

Compared to using a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) gel called piroxicam, the homeopathic gel was similarly effective, but this could have been a placebo effect.Additionally, since the homeopathic gel contained multiple ingredients, no explicit support exists forRhus toxas a practical component.
